Tahiru Abdul-Washiru has won the Inclusive and Anti-Conflict Journalism Award for the radio category
Asaase Radio’s Savannah regional correspondent Tahiru Abdul-Washiru, has been awarded second best radio reporter at the Inclusive and Anti-conflict Journalism Awards 2023 in Accra.
Organised under the Engaging Media and Minorities to Act for Peacebuilding (EMMAP), Media Platform on Environment and Climate Change (MPEC) and Minority Rights Group International with funding support from the European Union (EU), the maiden awards ceremony recognised the good work of journalists who are making an impact in environment and climate change reporting.
Abdul-Washiru’s story, “Residents of Kpanshegu appeal to government to fix their deplorable road” was nominated for an award in the radio category.
The Savannah regional correspondent emerged as the second-best radio reporter, while a Tamale-based journalist for Rainbow Radio International (Accra) and Kesmi FM, Prince Kwame Tamakloe, won the best reporter for the same category.
The Northern regional correspondent for Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mohammed Fugu, won best reporter in the print and online categories, while Benedicta Gyimaah Folley of the Ghanaian Times was the second runner-up in the same category.
Edward Acquah of Ghana News Agency (GNA) won the best wireless services reporter award, while Anthony Adongo Apubeo, also of GNA, was the second runner-up in the same category.
Multimedia Group’s Volta regional correspondent, Ivy Priscilla Setordjie, won best reporter in the TV category with her colleague Nana Yaw Gyimah Mensah winning the second position in the same category.
Mohammed Fugu of Graphics Communications Group emerged as the overall winner of the IACJ awards.
Winners received certificates, medals, and cash prizes, while second-place runners-up also received certificates and cash prizes.
