The first Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLC) Conservation Congress is underway in Windhoek, Namibia.
About 350 participants, including grassroots community representatives, leaders from Indigenous Peoples Organizations, Development Partners, Conservation NGOs/CSOs, African governments, the media and other key stakeholders in nature conservation in Africa, are attending the Congress.
The Congress is organized by the Alliance for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities for Conservation in Africa (AICA) with support from the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) and other donors.
The Congress was born out of the 2022 Kigali IPLC Declaration that also saw the birth of the IPLC Alliance.
